Job Description

Post: 55 plus Social Club Co-ordinator

Reporting to: Centre Manager

Start date: 1st August 2024


Remuneration:

a)     Salary £ 28210 per annum FTE

b)    Hours: 25 Hours per week pro rata

c)     Job-related training

d)    6 month interim cover. Possibility to extend


Aims of the post:

To run 3 weekly sessions for 55 plus social club. Includes social club and lunch club 3 times per week

Supporting additional activities currently includes:

  • Film club

  • Poetry group

  • Dance and Exercise classes

  • Art group

  • Gardening

  • IT training


The aim is to:

  • Foster independence and reduce loneliness and isolation offering older people the opportunity to contribute towards their services and community.

  • Ensure older people receive a range of good quality services and access to information that supports independence and works to reduce social isolation.

  • Promote activities and services that provide positive images of older people in our community.


Scope and dimensions of the post:

To be a reliable member of the Whittington Park Community Association team working to provide a positive environment for older people/vulnerable adults.

General Duties

  1. To manage the day to day operation of the social club which runs 3 times weekly and includes a home cooked 2 course lunch and a range of activities . To manage database and payments

  2. To work together with the centre manager and community programmes and engagement manager to increase outreach and extend the range of activities on offer arranging annual events such as the Christmas lunch and summer outings to places such as Kew Gardens.

  3. Support older people to access advice and information services through signposting and promoting information especially for frail and vulnerable older people.

  4. Attend and participate in regular supervision sessions and staff team meetings.

  5. Keep database records of work undertaken, giving verbal and written reports to the Centre Manager as required. Ensure payments for lunches are paid regularly and keep accurate records of any cash payments.

  6. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Centre Manager.

  7. Ensure that good equal opportunities practice underpins all work undertaken. This will include actively promoting good equal opportunities practice among the members of the project.

  8. Supported by the centre manager recruit, manage, develop, supervise and support a team of volunteers.

  9. Maintain networks and systems for work with other professional agencies and act as referrer where appropriate.

  10. Develop and maintain an accurate and up-to-date information resource for older people.

  11. Work with older people to empower, campaign and raise the profile of older people and support them to address issues of ageism and negative attitudes towards older people.

  12. Advocate on behalf of older people.

  13. Report, record and share information with external agencies when required and with consent where appropriate.

  14. To undertake responsibility for maintaining Health & Safety Policy within this service and report any shortfalls or issues affecting vulnerable users. Ensure adequate risk assessments are undertaken at all times.

  15. Adhere to WPCA’s Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policy at all times and follow procedures in relation to recording, reporting and assessment of older people/vulnerable adults.

  16. Support WPCA by joining rota for front of house when required


 

Essential

Desirable

1. Have at least one years’ experience of working with

older people.

 

2. Hold NVQ level 2 or above in Health & Social Care or equivalent.

 

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles involved in encouraging self-help and user participation in the running of provision of older

people’s services.

 

4. Have experience of support and supervision of volunteers.

 

5. Demonstrate good organisational skills.

 

6. Demonstrate a full understanding of the equal opportunities policy and practice involved in the work of the project.

 

7. Demonstrate a full understanding of the health and safety requirements of the post.

 

8. Be able to work effectively on their own, as part of a team and as a team leader.

 

9. Be willing to undertake additional training as and when this may be required.

 

10. Ability to provide written and verbal reports.

 

11. Ability to communicate at various levels and provide regular reports to the Centre Manager highlighting any

developments or concerns within the 55 plus social club service.

 

12. Ability to keep abreast of any key issues/legislation relating to older people and implementing changes

within the service.

 

13. Handle and record payments and work within the

organisation’s finance procedures.

 

14. Demonstrate an understanding of marketing services to

older people and reaching all sectors of a diverse community.

 

15. Ability to use IT including Microsoft Office

  1. The post requires that standards for service delivery and customer satisfaction are developed and monitored.

  2. The post requires that there is a continuous rise in the level of expectations and quality.

  3. The post requires full DBS clearance as well as complete honesty and the highest regard for the welfare of those attending the WPCA.
