About Whittington Park Community Centre

Whittington Park Community Centre in north Islington is a vibrant and lively place featuring a lunch club for the over 55s, a youth group, various classes and activities and a 1 O’clock Club.

We have five beautiful spaces for hire, three of which have been recently refurbished. These get used for fitness classes, children's parties, Scout groups, conferences, rehearsals, church groups, support groups and more. As we grow our bookings, we need a flexible caretaker to help us keep putting on the activities that the community wants.

Aims of the post:

WPCA needs a caretaker that will primarily be responsible for

  • Opening and closing the centre and/or the 1 O’clock Club for out-of-hours bookings from Friday – Sunday and occasional evening bookings during the week to cover other caretaker leave/sickness (with prior notice)

  • Providing assistance as required e.g. moving furniture

  • Ensuring hire spaces including toilets are clean and presentable for the next booking.

  • Small scale maintenance and repairs to be carried out on an ad-hoc basis.

We are looking for someone who has a flexible approach to work, who can vary their working hours based on the needs of the centre. We have regular bookings over the weekend, but due to its nature, bookings at the centre and usage can vary – with some weeks requiring less than 5 hours and some over 20.

A perk of the job is that when the hirer’s do not need assistance, you can spend the time reading, working or studying. This makes it a great job for anyone in the creative industries, taking classes or who has a job they can do in their own time.

As the centre serves all members of the community, you will need to have a DBS check which we will arrange and pay for.

Rotas and communication will be done mostly via email and an online system so a level of technology proficiency is required.

There are two other part time caretakers that look after the week day bookings.
