As part of our programme of environmental events in Islington, London, this first community planning session is a chance to find out more about the two-year project and how you can get involved.
We’ll introduce the project, what we hope to achieve and how local people can help shape what happens next. We want to hear where you’d like to see more greenery, which tree pits could be planted up and what kinds of trees and pollinator-friendly plants you’d like to see locally.
No experience in gardening, planting or nature is needed, just an interest in making the neighbourhood greener. Share your ideas and help shape greener streets and spaces for people and wildlife.

Saturday 31 October, 2–3:30 pm – Autumn Walk with Bob Gilbert
Enjoy the beautiful autumn colours while learning fascinating facts and stories about the trees in our neighbourhood. A gentle walk with plenty of stops along the way.
Tuesday 24 November, 6.30–8pm – Greening Our Neighbourhood
Share your ideas for new trees and wildlife corridors at our community nature planning session.
Where: WPCA, Islington, London, N19 4RS
Cost: FREE - Drinks and snacks will be available.
Tree Trails & Pollinator Pathways is a collaboration between Octopus Community Network, Islington Council and the National Trust, building on the work of residents in the Tufnell Park Nature Neighbourhoods area.
Over the next two years, the project will work with local communities to create almost 8km of green corridors, improve habitats for pollinators and wildlife, plant up tree pits and make local streets and green spaces better for nature.
This is the first in a series of planning sessions and environmental events taking place as part of the project.

Tuesday 29 September, 6.30pm – Tree Pit Planning
Find out about the Tree Trails & Pollinator Pathways project, how to get involved and what we're planting.
Saturday 10 October, 11am – Tree Pit Walk
Explore the neighbourhood with Pete on a relaxed walk to discover where our new trees will be planted, the species planned and which tree pits we'll plant up next.
Tuesday 20 October, 11am – Bulb Planting
A relaxed morning of bulb planting with our garden volunteers to help make Whittington Park even more beautiful in spring.
Saturday 24 October, 10.45am – First Tree Pit Planting Session
Get involved in planting up local tree pits!
Sunday 25 October, 10–11.30am – Nature Explorers For under-5s
Discover nature in our garden with creative activities, stories, songs and free play.
